LOS ANGELES, Calif. – This March, the virtual Technical Management Program (TMP) hosts its 100th session and celebrates serving over 15,000 technical professionals. The story of the Technical Management Program at UCLA Extension began in 1955 when the conference was founded by Ralph M. Barnes, emeritus professor with UCLA’s Graduate School of Management and School of Engineering. In honor of its 100th session, TMP plans to convene alumni, kick-off TMP Week with a keynote speaker, and honor instructors and key supporters.
“TMP’s 100th session is special because not many programs can boast about this kind of longevity or success,” according to Varaz Shahmirian, Interim Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, and Director of Engineering and Technology at UCLA Extension. “What the program does is empower managers across industries. This shared intense experience translates into affinity and community which continues after the TMP conference.”
Recognized as a forum for continuing education with advanced study and management development for technical professionals, TMP examines best practices of leadership, project management, and strategic thinking and their application in all industries. As an executive-level program, sessions engage in insightful group discussions and examines innovative and result-driven approaches. TMP is recognized for giving participants strategic and effective tools to advance initiatives and problem-solving within their organizations. This is a hallmark of the week-long TMP conference.
Attendees select and design tracks to focus on managing dynamic projects, budgets, and high-performance teams. Interactive TMP sessions are led by skillful academics and blend theory and practice over the five days. Attendees have said TMP “has taught me how to manage change” and “skills for work and everyday life.”
